Moltar is one of the main antagonists of the Space Ghost franchise.

Physical Appearance[]

In early appearances, Moltar wore a yellow and white outfit with white gloves. He eventually switched to his more well-known red and gray outfit with green gloves.

Biography[]

Space Ghost[]

He was one of the greatest villains of Space Ghost and member of the Council of Doom. In his first appearance, the character was called Moltor and had a different appearance. The name Moltor was later used as the name of his home planet in Space Ghost Coast to Coast.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast[]

He later became the director of Space Ghost's talk show, Space Ghost Coast to Coast. He was the nicest one of the trio but was willing to do messed-up stuff such as killing his roommate. He's the only one of the trio to have a family as he has a wife named Linda and children.

Moltar was also briefly the host of Toonami, before he handed the role over to his friend TOM.

The Brak Show[]

Moltar appears in the episode "Runaway" in where he is a hitchhiker.

Jellystone![]

Moltar first appeared in the season two finale "Sweet Dreams" on a book cover. He physically appears in the third season episode "Space Con" in which he initially disguised himself as Meteor Man.

Trivia[]

  • In the original cartoon, he was not a magma man but a creator of magma men called the Molten Men.
  • The reason why Moltar was replaced by TOM as the host of Toonami was due to C. Martin Croker losing interest in hosting the block, and Jason DeMarco and Sean Akins wanted to explore new creative venues for the block.[1]
  • Moltar's original white and yellow outfit would later be repurposed for Linda's design.
  • Of the six villains chosen to form the Council of Doom, Moltar was the only one to have only appeared in a single episode prior. Zorak, Creature King, Black Widow and Brak had all appeared in two episodes prior to the six-part Council of Doom storyline, whilst Metallus had been the antagonist of three prior episodes.
